Band

”The debut album of the Swedish-Finnish trio Pelios is a very positive surprise. Their touch is fresh and their sound is very effective in all its simplicity. One can create a lot with just vocals and string instruments.”
- Tove Djupsjöbacka, HBL August 22, 2012

Pelios (Swe/Fin) is a band which enjoys making music as much as they enjoy cooking and general hanging around. For Pelios music is one of the main elements of life and it should be played with the same love and devotion as one has to put into making a chocolate mousse.

Pelios sound is as fresh as their attitude towards creating music together. The trio consists of two fiddles and three voices which creates exciting challenges when it comes to arranging the songs. These challenges are turned into opportunities through group improvisation and free association of the tunes at hand.

The songs and tunes are both traditional and self-penned as are the lyrics which are mostly about love, betrayal and the sea. This combination of both new and old material gives their repertoire timeless resonance.

Pelios is a trio from Sweden and Finland and consists of these three lovely ladies:

Josefin Peters is one of Sweden’s most original young folk singers. In addition to her singing in Pelios, she also sings in a theatre/circus music ensemble Jannes Fenomenala Orkester and is also the lead singer in Swing Magnifique which performs old jazz. She has studied  jazz and folk music singing at both Musikhögskolan Ingesund and at the prestigious Royal  College of Music in Stockholm. Her radiance on stage and outstanding ability to adapt to different musical genres and moods makes her a perfect leading figure for a band like Pelios!

Anna Lindblad is a confident fiddler belonging to the the new generation of Swedish folk musicians. Her fiddle playing is steeped in groove, joy and presence. While her heart beats for tradition she is not afraid to mix it up with new influences. Besides her Swedish fiddling she also plays Québecois and Irish folk music, and she holds a Masters degree of traditional music from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Besides Pelios, Anna is a member of the popular Swedish folk pop band LYY as well as the Swedish americana act Lily Mountain Band. She plays her music with a smile on her face and a contagiously positive attitude and spirit.

Suvi Oskala is a fiddle player and a singer comibining a solo career with ensemble work in bands such as Piia Kleemola & co, Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala, Suvi Oskala Duo and Pelios. She composes material for her solo work and ensembles, and has composed and performed music for several whole performances ranging from the world’s first sign language opera and music for the theatre, solo material in a more contemporary style. Suvi Oskala holds a Master of Music degree from the Folk Music Department of Sibelius Academy where she studied from 2002 to 2010 with fiddle and singing as her two majors. Suvi’s first solo album, entitled simply as ’SOOLO’, was released in February 2012 by her own label Suvi Sounds.
